VAB in Lebanon (1): Lebanese Armed Forces (1): 1983-2007
The VAB ( Véhicule de l’Avant Blindé) APC is a frequently sighted vehicle in Lebanon since the early 1980s. It made its first appearance in Lebanon in 1981 with the French Messidor deal to the Lebanese Army. Several operators used or/and still use this vehicle like the Lebanese Army since 1981, the French Multinational Forces (MNF) in 1982-1984, the UNIFIL FrenchBatt since 1982, The French Gendarmerie in the 1980s for embassy protection, the UNIFIL who bought some vehicles used by various armies battalions under its mandate, the Lebanese militias who captured some vehicles during the civil war, and most lately the Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF).
The VAB variants used by the Lebanese Army are mainly VTT and PC variants, the VTT are mainly armed with a 12,7 mm M2 MG except for the five VABs of the first batch equipped with a 7,62mm MG . More variants are found with the UNIFIL with the VAB VTT, VAB T-20/13, VAB SAN, VAB ATLAS, VAB VIT.
