Night Patrol

On the night of August 31, 2012, the traffic platoon of the Force Commander Reserve (FCR) conducted an observation mission at night (Night Observation Post, NOP), in coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces.

The traffic platoon of the FCR, which mainly conduct convoy escort missions and route reconnaissance, conducted on August 31 its third observer mission night since the start of Daman XVII term.

This mission took place in the Italian sector (West Sector) area of operations of the UNIFIL. The observation post of the traffic platoon stood northeast of the city of Kafra in the Malaysian battalion area.

Field Artillery Deployment

The French 1er Régiment d’Artillerie de Marine (1er RAMa) lead a combined artillery exercise in Lebanon with a main objective: Standardizing artillery firing protocols between UNIFIL allied armies.
Every month, the CAESAR sub-Battle Group, the SGTA-4, leads artillery exercises to the benefit of various UNIFIL contingents. This sub-Battle Group belonging to the Force Commander Reserve (FCR) is used by the French Army first Navy Artillery Regiment (1er RAMa) since October 2011. This type of exercise called “Field Artillery Deployment (FAD)” was also held in December 2011 with the Indonesian and Italian battalions.
For three days, the two sections of the SGTA-4 presented their equipment, their modus operandi and their methods to their peers from the UNIFIL.

Vehicle Profile: Petit Véhicule Protégé (PVP)

The Petit Véhicule Protégé (PVP) is a modern 4×4 vehicle, designed to equip Combat Support Units.

Air transportable (C130, C160 and heavy helicopters), very mobile and with a high level of ballistic protection, it has a 7.62mm weapon of self-protection and can carry up to four passengers. With a good protection / carrying / mobility, the PVP accommodates the new capabilities of the French Army and can be deployed in External Operations.

There are two main versions used today:

A “command” version for commanders and section chiefs, and able also to receive transmission equipment, electronic warfare and artillery (team liaison).
A “rank” version for units with AT4CS, Eryx or Milan missiles, observation teams of artillery, and traffic engineering.

Delivery of all vehicles is expected by the end of 2011.
The PVP is deployed in Georgia as part of the European monitoring mission, in Afghanistan and in Lebanon where 30 vehicles are patrolling Southern Lebanese roads since December 2009.

Joint Live Artillery Exercise

“Within the framework of military cooperation between the Lebanese Army and the forces of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, a live artillery shooting was held toward the sea off the coast of Naqoura. It was attended by a number of Lebanese Army officers and troops. The aim of this exercise is to ensure readiness of the Artillery units of both forces as well as the exchange of experiences and knowledge in this area.”
